STORY OF A MIRAGE

2016

Video installation (Three channel)

Duration: 04:00 min loop

"Story of a mirage" is a captivating video art triptych that explores the multifaceted experience of immigration through the lenses of doubt, adapt, and amnesia. The artwork presents an intimate and introspective portrayal of the artist's personal journey as an immigrant from Iran to Vienna.

      Doubt
In the first segment, "Doubt," the viewer is immersed in a visual narrative that reflects the initial uncertainties and questioning that accompany the immigrant experience. The use of fragmented imagery, distorted sounds, and disorienting camera angles evokes a sense of unease and ambiguity. The artist's inner struggles, cultural conflicts, and the weight of leaving behind familiar surroundings are conveyed through thought-provoking visuals and a haunting soundtrack.

     Adapt
The second segment, "Adapt," delves into the process of adaptation and the artist's attempt to find a sense of belonging in a new environment. Through a juxtaposition of contrasting images and sounds, the viewer witnesses the gradual transformation and integration of the artist within the Viennese culture. Symbolic visuals of blending colours, interwoven textures, and cross-cultural interactions serve as metaphors for the intricate dance of adapting and embracing new traditions while retaining one's own identity.

     Amnesia
The final segment, "Amnesia," explores the impact of the immigrant experience on memory and the sense of displacement. It delves into the idea of fragments of identity and the erasure of collective history. Through a combination of archival footage, symbolic imagery, and poetic narration, the artist raises questions about the loss of heritage, the struggle to preserve cultural memory, and the complexities of reconciling one's past with the present reality.
